Figures from The Money Charity paint a serious picture of debt in the UK. Citizens Advice Bureaux in England and Wales dealt with 4,475 new debt problems every day during January 2017. The average total debt per household – including mortgages – is £58k. Per adult in the UK that’s an average debt of £30,455– around 114% of average earnings.

Earlier this week I was given a salutary reminder that you can never keep too many good quality notes. Several years ago I bought my office, Clare Stables, from a builder (Thomas Betts & Co). The office was in a very dilapidated state and needed a lot of work. Some of our conversations were recorded in writing – but some weren’t. The work progressed (some was never done) and we moved in a mere six months late.
